The useful takeaway
An appealing front label should lead you to clear information on the rest of the package.
Read past the product name
Identify the complete ingredients, serving directions, quantity supplied and manufacturer or distributor contact. Marketing terms such as premium or potent should not replace the information needed to understand what you are taking.
Check for overlap
Compare the ingredients with other supplements in your routine. A blend can contain ingredients already present elsewhere. Keep the labels together when asking a clinician or pharmacist about suitability.
Look for traceability
Find the batch or lot reference and expiry information. Ask for the analysis connected to that batch. The existence of a report from an earlier year is useful history, but it does not automatically certify the product in your hand.
Read claims with care
FDA does not approve dietary supplements for safety and effectiveness before they are sold. A confident presentation should not be mistaken for that approval. Claims to diagnose, treat or cure a disease need particular scrutiny.
Know where to ask
Use the contact on the package when information is missing. It is reasonable to request a clear answer before taking a product. Our proof pages make the available documents easy to open and state where a current batch connection remains unconfirmed.
